Two years ago Bandai Namco announced the development of a new role -playing project – Furora did not produce the news, but the pathos design of the game with post -apocalyptic and Gothic motives looked curious, like a gameplay that shamelessly copying the lion's fraction of the chips Dark Souls. For almost a year about Code Vein, nothing was heard, but in April 2018 several fresh trailers appeared and the date of the game was released. The release was supposed to take place on September 28 of the same year … But something went wrong. Representatives of Bandai Namco dryly explained that the game requires revision, after which it disappeared from radar.
And only relatively recently the publisher announced the closed beta test of the network mode of the game. Finally, about the anime Dark Souls, you can not only find out something new, but also immerse yourself in the game-albeit just a couple of levels. For RPG this is ridiculous, but the first impression is really to make.
Code Vein attracts attention with spectacular surroundings. The world of the game resembles novels about a hunter for vampires Dee: the planet has experienced a certain cataclysm, civilization in ruins, and in search of fresh blood immortals roam – people who survived, but turned into vampires. The empty cities with failures into the abyss and luminous spikes sticking out from under the ground look typical of post-apocalyptic fantasy: we have recently seen the like, for example, in the third part Darksiders.
But on the outfits of the heroes, the designers came off to the fullest. There are protective masks, and futuristic armor, and elegant Victorian costumes, and all kinds of raincoats, straps, buckles and ruffles in spectacular combinations … Well, of course, huge elaborate swords, hammers and rifles with bayonets in the best traditions of Jrpg. The parrying and attacks from the back have long and spectacular animations. Beautiful, but will it interfere with the pace of passage in the network game?
And the costumes are soaked in vampires and become a continuation of their bodies. Thanks to this, the characters now and then spikes from the hands, an acute iron whip appears from under the hollow floor, and ghostly dogs come out of the sleeves and tear the enemy into pieces. It looks great – you directly feel like an alucard at the cybergot party. And these are only the costumes that managed to try on beta versions.
We have only one hero under the control, and his appearance can be configured as if you wish, up to the shape of the glare in the eyes. And change everything except the complexion and floor of the character, you can at any time of the game. Like a combat specialization: there are no classes in Code Vein, and the characteristics automatically increase with obtaining a new level. But there are “blood codes” – sets of abilities, weak and strengths, unique to every vampire. But our hero, of course, is special, therefore he has several at once, between which you can switch.

At first the hero has only three code. He can be a strong warrior, a fragile magician or a defender who shoots well from a gun and owns a number of support skills. But this is only the beginning: the other codes will receive the protagonist from crystals (what they are and where they come from is difficult to explain without spoilers) or from friends who agree to share the blood. Moreover, skills are remembered as you use, and if you master one of them, it can be applied with any code. Do you want your warrior to throw fireballs? Easily!
There are no restrictions on equipment either. The blood code affects the characteristics, so not all combinations will be successful, but here you can experiment or adjust to the situation. It looks like a system in Monster Hunter: World, where the hero’s abilities depend on weapons and costume.

But in the case of a combat system, you will not have to think for a long time on comparisons: it really is Dark Souls. Bandai Namco shamelessly copied everything from the colleagues – from mechanics to animations. But the glorified difficulties and accuracy of the Dark Souls is still lacking: the game is clearly imprisoned for cheerful joint passage, and not under many hours of suffering in search of true tactics. There are flaws in the graphics: background textures leave much to be desired, animation of long spectacular strikes will fail now and then, and in general the picture turned out to be average. But this can be improved to the exit of the game; the release date has not yet been announced, so there is still time for improvements.

Unfortunately, even after the test, a bunch of questions about Code Vein remained unanswered. It is unclear how much the world of the game, enemies and bosses will be great and diverse. And what to expect from the plot? The tie about the next silent chosen one, who is destined to save the world, does not encourage. But it can also be successfully developed by adding unexpected turns or companions with heart -gating stories to the history.
In the meantime, Code Vein looks like a secondary, but pretty role with a slope of action and a cooperative – a sort of Monster Souls Eater. Fans of anime pathos and the passage of games in the company of friends to miss her from sight are definitely not worth. Let's hope that another transfer of the release will not happen: the release date on September 27, 2019 has been stated for today. The game should appear on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
