MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a black comedy-drama about the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan who is at odds with her family over the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her caregiver (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Ruben), and the frivolity of an unexpected love affair, Merit’s cozy but unsuccessful friendship with Zoe isolates the duo from the world. Until estranged grandfather Merritt (Ed Harris), trapped in the family’s ancestral lake house, loses his bearings and needs the one thing he refuses: help. At its core, it’s a buddy movie about complicated friendships, broken families, and the complex ways we deal with grief.
