Teenager Autumn Edison (Lumi Pollack) lives with her father in New York City
Chronology
After years in New York City, 14-year-old Autumn returns to the Amazon rainforest to save her childhood village and her beloved jaguar friend. Spiritual remake of Mia i bijeli lav (2018), an earlier film by Gilles de Maistre. They left their home in the Amazon jungle and their tribe after her activist mother was murdered eight years earlier.
Her father had hidden letters from her tribal relatives
Loggers, poachers, and others have destroyed the land around them. As a child, Autumn had befriended a jaguar she named Hope. There is only one jaguar left in the area, and it is hunted endlessly.
Autumn fears it is Hope and runs away from home in a desperate attempt to save her friend
She is followed by her agoraphobic science teacher Anja (Emily Bett Rickards), who tries to protect her student despite being completely miserable herself. This reminds me a lot of those old Disney movies with unreal characters, unreal situations and unreal animals. At least this one has its heart in the right place and some of the jungle locations are amazing.
She’s meant as comedic relief
As far as unreal characters go, the Disney princess attempt puts me off more. It’s ridiculous that they float down the river like in a cartoon. I don’t really have a problem with Anja.
The Amazon situation is a bit simplistic to say the least
The movie is nice and entertaining, but the fakery trumps the better aspects.
