The landman’s job is usually to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent, essentially managing and leasing the land so that they can drill for oil and gas. Similar to a construction foreman, they assemble roads, build worker housing (man camps), and dig wells, especially in remote locations.
A great start to two episodes!
Billy Bob Thorton (Tommy Norris) is excellent in the title role. I found Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris) and ‘reasonable’ Ali Larter (Angela Norris) as Tommy’s ex-wife and Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris) as Tommy’s daughter to be unbearable, and I’m already hoping for the worst.
Things are happening to them!
The company that owns them and Tommy’s character, Jon Hamm (Monty Miller), is the boss, perhaps represents my hopeful-necessary fears about this thriving series. In short, I fear creator/writer Taylor Sheridan is choosing a bumper sticker mentality and letting the series down: Big Oil: Bad!

If that happens, I’ll change my rating and walk away!
