Movie Junk podcast reference: Episode 961: Violence in Nature + TIFF 2024 (2024). I watched Kneecap early on as part of AMC’s Screen Unseen. I had never heard of it, so being completely blind was a fun experience.
The themes of this film stood out the most
Kneecap is a funny movie with likeable characters and amazing music. As a rap fan, I was impressed by the rhymes and HARD beats. And the film as a whole is very cool stylistically.
As a Palestinian, all of these themes hit home for me
It perfectly captures themes such as cultural preservation, historical trauma in the DNA, and resistance to colonizer control. The only thing I can find fault with is that I don’t understand most of the dialogue. It contains accents and slang, as well as references to Irish terms.
Erin go Bragh (Ireland Forever) and Free Palestine!
If you’re watching this film in theaters, it’s worth using a closed captioning device. (1 AMC screencast from an early screening that was not seen on 7/22/2024)
