It is a tribute which I owe as a son to my adoptive father, as an aid de camp to my general, as a missionary of liberty to its patriarch. The original Bastille key is made of iron and hangs in a glass case in the central hall of Mount Vernon, George Washington's plantation on the Potomac River.
